Check And Check

This year Dave and I have been working SO HARD to grow our food storage. We have made some great progress! But another part of having food storage is being able to cook with it. Which I couldn't do. So I have made it a personal goal of mine to learn how to make a lot of things from scratch this year. I figured it's better to learn this now, while I still have the option of going to the grocery store after my failed attempts, than later on when I possibly wouldn't have that option. I REALLY enjoy cooking and baking so this has been fun for me. So far I've made....

Cake and Frosting from scratch

Onion Rings (oh my goodness these were good. I ate them all lol)

Pie Crust

Tortillas (I can't believe how EASY these are to make!)

And breads. This was my biggest challenge. I wish I had my mom or my buddy Jan to help me learn this skill, but I'm happy to say that after many failures I finally had success!

I also made homemade graham crackers! They were pretty great!

I think my next challenge will be homemade pasta! Wish me luck!

When I told Jake all he said was; Does this mean I finally get to see snow?!
Oh the mind of a 5 year old!!

We are sad to move so far from family and friends in Texas, but we are excited to start a new adventure in Utah!!

Well thats all the happy news I have for now!

4th of July!

This 4th of July was pretty eventful!

David had to work so it was just me and the kiddos for most of the day. I told Jakers he could have the day off from school, but he still wanted to do a lesson. Go figure.

So we learned about our sense of smell and taste. The boys had a lot of fun!

(Steven was only slightly upset he didn't get to wear the blindfold first)

Then later that afternoon the boys went for a swim in their dino pool!

When daddy came home thats when the REAL FUN started!

Then we grilled some hot dogs.....

And made homemade onion rings (they were SO good!)

Here are my boys! As you can see, Steven was patiently waiting for the prayer so he could dig in!

THEN, while we were eating dinner, little Steven fell off the bench and busted his lip open. (the cut is on the left, the rest of that stuff on his face is ketchup)

We were about to take him to the ER when he started eating the hotdog that he had apparently been holding onto the whole time! Enough said.

He came back around to his happy self after a while.

Since my baby was hurt, I decided to make him a treat. Cupcakes! But not just any cupcakes, 4th of July cupcakes!

Jake LOVED them!

And I think this little guy loved them too.

Yummy!

Then it was time to bust out the sparklers! Jakers had a lot of fun!!

Steven was having fun, until he decided to touch the hot sparkler!! Which resulted in an instant blister on his little sausage finger. Sigh, that child.

Ouch!

Jakers was attempting two sparklers at once, which resulted in him being burned as well.....

Which resulted in the sparklers being thrown in the grass.....

Then, in true pyro spirit, despite being burned both the boys decided to try them again.

All in all it was a fun day. I think even Steven would agree.
