Today was a busy day. Mondays are always busy for us. We we to Target, got an oil change on the truck, went to the bank, the Harlingen Star for some Sunday papers and did 10,000 other things I can't remember. Then we came home to put Steven down for a nap. I still needed to go to CVS so I offered for Jakers to come along with me. Jake loves CVS because they have the car carts.
CVS was very busy. And I needed to do 8 transactions (will tell ya about the trip later) so I was waiting for the line to die down. I always try to wait until no one is at the registers because I HATE IT when people start to sigh and tap their little sassy toes at me just because I am using a lot of coupons. It tends to bring out my not so nice side.
So anyways, because we were taking so long Jake started to grow impatient with me. And when that happens I know I'm either going to leave the store very frustrated or just simply crying. I know that sounds bad, and you are probably thinking that I should just leave him at home. And I normally do, I just feel guilty sometimes when I leave. I know that sounds funny because I'm with them from 6am to 6pm every single day. But still, I like his company. When he is being pleasant that is.
Ok, back to the story.
So we got in line, and if any of you have been to a CVS before you know that in front of the registers are tons and tons of candy bars and treats. Whoever decided to put them there should be smacked. And of course come the 500 requests for toys, gum, candy and that cool bumblebee car he sees. I keep telling him no and he is getting more frustrated. So Jake decides to pick up the candy and ask me if it looks so yummy. I'm busy trying to do all 8 transactions correctly I'm just telling him to put them back and not really paying attention to what he was doing. Well I finally finished and we left the store.
Later in the afternoon, Jake walks up to me, pulls something out of his pocket and says: Look mommy! Now we have LOTS of gum!
Me: What? Hey, where did you get that gum? Is that from CVS?!
Jake: Um, yep. You want some?
I suddenly had flashbacks of when I was 4 years old and "I" stole zebra gum when I was grocery shopping with my mom. It had been almost the exact situation, only, I got caught when I was trying to open the gum in the car. My mother marched me right back into that store, made me go to the cashier, give the gum back, then apologize. I was so embarrassed. I thought my mom was so mean making me go back to the store and give it back. LOL it's funny how life happens.
We had a long talk with Jake about how if we take things without buying them it's called stealing. I think he got it at the end. Or maybe he was just so tired of being lectured that he was just agreeing with us.
Dave took him back to CVS with the gum in hand. Jake took the gum to the manager, muttered something about being sorry and left the store. And that was that.
LOL I'm just glad he didn't get his picture taken by management so they could put him on the "clepto watch list". That could present a problem since his momma is at that store 2-3 times a week.....
That is all.
I think EVERY kid, at one point in their life has stolen Zebra Gum! It's like a right of passage... Next time, just buy your child some gum, Leak! ;-)
